Find Us

Lockerbrook Farm Outdoor Centre can be found just over a mile up a farm track from the A57 Snake Pass between Sheffield and Manchester. It is signposted ‘Lockerbrook Farm Centre’ from the only crossroads on the A57.

Turn right from Sheffield and left from Manchester. Drive up through Rowlee Farm, past the farmhouse on your left and the barn on your right. Continue through the first of two wooden gates (always to be shut after you pass through please) which says ‘Woodcraft Folk Lockerbrook Farm 1 mile’ and follow the track until you reach us.

Please be aware that the track has some steep sections, sharp corners and  a rough track surface which can be affected sometimes by adverse weather conditions.  Please note normal cars and normal sized minibuses (not low-floor long minibuses) are able to access the centre with very little difficulty and have been doing so for 60 years.  If you have any concerns with regards to access do get in touch and please ensure your group is aware of the access track when arranging your visit.

Low carbon options for arrival

We encourage all groups to consider how they arrive to Lockerbrook to reduce the carbon footprint for your visit. It is possible (just) to get here by public transport or travelling together in a coach or minibus. Some will choose to combine public transport with a walk in or cycle. All of these present their own challenges due to our location at just over 1km up a bridleway! If you have no option but to come by car please try to car-share where possible. We have very limited parking on site for between 14-20 cars

Public Transport

Due to our isolation and rural setting, we are not well served by public transport.  The nearest train station is at Bamford, approximately 9.5 kilometres away. Trains arrive at Bamford from Manchester and Sheffield.

The closest buses from Sheffield drops off by the Ladybower Inn on the A57 which is at least an hour and a half walk away.

If you are walking up you will need to carry all your luggage in a rucksack (rather than a wheeled suitcase) as the path is steep and rocky in places.

Please note that due to the nature of the track some taxi firms may be reluctant to make the journey, so do not rely on that unless agreed in advance.

Travelling by private coach

Coaches can drop off at Upper Derwent Visitor Centre (Fairholmes) From there it is a 25 minute steep walk uphill to the centre through the trees.  This is a memorable start to a visit to Lockerbrook Farm – making the arrival an activity in itself.  Groups who have a pre-arranged luggage collection will be met at the coach car park. (Luggage pickup prices available on request)  Otherwise your group will need to carry their bags.  The path is a typical rural footpath which can be muddy in places and we strongly recommend you only do this if you are confident your group is able to carry up their luggage in a rucksack and will have suitable footwear. It is useful if one staff member/ group leader brings a vehicle up to the site in case of overnight emergencies.

The best map to find us on and for planning walking routes is Ordnance Survey Sheet OL1 “The Peak District, Dark Peak Area”.
